Over 1700 Enlisted For Observation, SKIMS Admits 4 More Persons
Srinagar: One more person tested positive for coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir where more than 1700 people have been put under surveillance.
Officials told GNS that nearly 90 samples were taken across the union territory of J&K and so far two persons tested positive and 77 others tested negative for COVID-19.
Among the 1743 people enlisted for observation, they said 1485 persons are in “home quarantine”, 18 in “hospital quarantine” and 81 in “home surveillance.”
“85 samples were collected, 77 come negative (including 29 till yesterday) and two tested positive (including sexagenarian woman from Jammu who had returned from Iran recently),” officials said, adding, “Six test reports are awaited.”
They said 159 persons have completed their 28 days surveillance period.
A senior doctor at SKIMS told GNS that four persons were admitted to SKIMS and their samples have been sent for tests along with one lady from Anantnag.
Dr Showkat Geelani told GNS that one suspected elderly lady was on Friday admitted in isolation ward in GMC Anantnag hospital. Her sample was taken for tests as she has a travel history. She had last week returned from Saudi Arabia after performing Umrah.
A home quarantined person has been advised to stay in a well-ventilated single-room preferably with an attached/separate toilet. Besides stay away from elderly people, pregnant women, children and persons with co-morbidities within the household, the advisory said.
Home quarantined persons should also restrict his/her movement within the house and under no circumstances attend any social/religious gatherings like weddings and condolences.
“Follow public health measures as per guidelines issued by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, GoI as this is for the benefit of his/her relatives, friends and population in general,” the advisory reads.
The Government has once again urged all social, religious and political organizations to avoid large gatherings. The general public is strongly advised to avoid going to gymnasiums and swimming pools.
“There is no need to panic, the public is advised to maintain social distancing; avoid un-necessary travel and use of public transport; and also take basic precautions including personal hygiene, frequent handwashing with soap and observing coughing and sneezing etiquettes,” the government advisory said.
Anyone with fever, cough and difficulty in breathing has been urged to seek medical care at the earliest. (GNS)
