New Delhi, July 28: Award-winning journalist Irfan Quraishi from Kashmir was conferred the prestigious S4M Patrakarita 40 Under 40 Award at a ceremony held at the India International Centre (IIC), New Delhi, on Tuesday.
The honour was presented during the fourth edition of the Samachar4Media (S4M) Patrakarita 40 Under 40 Awards 2024, an initiative of the exchange4media group that recognises talented journalists below the age of 40 who have made a distinct mark in print, television and digital media through excellence in journalism, leadership and professional commitment.
Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Brajesh Pathak, attended the ceremony as the chief guest and felicitated the awardees.
According to the organisers, the awardees were selected following a rigorous evaluation by an eminent jury comprising senior editors, media experts and distinguished personalities from across the country. The event also featured a day-long media conference with discussions on contemporary trends and challenges in Indian journalism before the felicitation ceremony.
Quraishi is a senior journalist with over 15 years of experience in television, digital and print journalism. During his career, he has extensively covered conflict, politics, national security, elections and strategic affairs in Jammu and Kashmir, besides reporting on several major national developments.
Quraishi previously served as Principal Correspondent and Bureau Head with TV9 Bharatvarsh and News9 English, where he established and led the network’s Kashmir bureau. Earlier, he headed the Kashmir bureau of ETV Bharat and also worked with Kashmir Times, Day & Night News and The Quint, among other media organisations. He is currently associated with international networks as a senior correspondent on a project basis while pursuing PhD research in media studies, focusing on artificial intelligence, newsroom ethics and visual verification.
Over the years, he has reported on several landmark events, including the Galwan border crisis, the Pulwama terror attack, the Balakot airstrikes, the G20 Summit in Kashmir, the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, elections and major security developments in the region. He has also contributed ground reports and strategic analysis to international broadcasters.
Quraishi is the recipient of the RedInk Special Mention Award for Investigative Journalism presented by the Mumbai Press Club in 2023. He also received the Best Journalist Award in 2024 and the Youth Icon of the Year (Journalism) award conferred by the Jammu & Kashmir Inspiration Forum (JKIF) in collaboration with the Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Kashmir. He has further strengthened his professional expertise through journalism fellowships at the Radio Netherlands Training Centre (RNTC), the Netherlands, and the Thomson Reuters Foundation, London.
Expressing gratitude after receiving the honour, Quraishi dedicated the award to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, his mentors, colleagues and family. He said the recognition would further strengthen his commitment to independent, ethical and public-interest journalism.
