Baramulla : Police in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district booked three more drug peddlers under the Jammu and Kashmir, PIT NDPS Act, while more than 100 peddlers have been booked in 68 NDPS cases this year so far, an official said.
A senior police official told that three notorious drug peddlers have been booked under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act and have been lodged at Kot Bhalwal Jail in Jammu.
He said the accused were promoting the drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth in and around Baramulla and were involved in multiple Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) cases.
The official identified the drug peddlers as Maroof Ahmad Khan, son of Mohammad Younis Khan, of Ramgai Uri; Tawqeer Bashir Magray, son of Bashir Ahmad Magray, of Nowshera Boniyar; and Mohammad Altaf Chopan, son of Mohammad Ahsan Chopan, of Kanispora Baramulla.
“In addition to these three, more than 100 peddlers have been booked in 68 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) cases registered across the district since January this year,” the official said, adding, “In March alone, 28 NDPS cases have been registered and around 50 people, including a woman peddler, Sarpanch, SPO, ambulance driver and Councilor of MC Pattan, were arrested.”
The official said that police have zero tolerance against those involved in drug-related activities and are making all-out efforts to keep society free from drug abuse. He said many miscreants and those involved in drug peddling have been identified and will be behind the bars soon.
The official appealed to the general public to support the police in order to make Baramulla a drug-free place. He said parental care is a must to stop crimes. He appealed to the parents to keep a strict vigil towards the activities of their wards—(KNO)
