‘Don’t have powers to kill these dogs: Official
Pulwama, Mar 6: A pack of stray dogs killed an eight-year-old boy on the outskirts of South Kashmir’s Pulwama town despite efforts put by locals to rescue the victim.
The victim identified as Azhar Manzoor, a 2nd class student was attacked by the pack of stray dogs shortly after coming out from his house.
Witnesses told KNT the dogs pounced on him and bit him indiscriminately on the neck, stomach and face. “A man witness to the attack couldn’t muster courage to confront the dogs. He called for help but till then the dogs had mauled the boy to death,” said an elderly man. Locals rushed the victim to District hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. A doctor said the boy died of multiple wounds.
The incident occurred at Pinglena village of the district.
This is the second incident of such nature in the village. Locals said earlier an elderly woman was attacked by dogs who succumbed to her injuries after spending 3 months in a Srinagar hospital.
An official from district administration while expressing grief said they don’t have powers to kill these dogs but have got hundreds of these sterilized. “Once we had started a drive against these dogs, but animal activists raised hue and cry threatened to move to court,” the official on condition of anonymity told KNT.
