Ganderbal : A strong protest was held in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal against the frequent power cuts by the Power Development Department (PDD).
The people from Kangan, Prang, Chinnar, Kijpora, Gujarpati and other areas staged a protest near Chinnar power station.
They said their areas remain in darkness during the wee hours amid bone-chilling cold temperatures.
“Despite paying bills on time and having three power projects in the district, uninterrupted power supply continues here,” one of the protesters told.
The protesters said the frequent power cuts are severely affecting their children who are currently taking examinations. “The PDD should provide uninterrupted power these days so that our children can study properly,” they said.
Many students were also among the protesters. They said they were struggling to study in the absence of electricity. The students said the PDD must ensure an uninterrupted power supply.
A team of PDD officials arrived at the site and assured the protesters that their issue will be resolved.
The officials also assured that the electricity supply would be restored as soon as possible—(KNO)
