SRINAGAR : The Tehreek-e-Hurriyat has expressed its deep concern over the continuous harassment by the NIA of senior Kashmiri resistance leader Altaf Ahmad Shah, who is being questioned in Delhi despite his health deteriorating alarmingly.
Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani warned the Indian authorities over the worsening health of Shah, whose fluctuating blood sugar level has gone up after he was called to Delhi for daily questioning following NIA raid at his Srinagar house on June 3.
Shah was called to Delhi on June 9 and since then is being made to visit NIA office in Delhi on daily basis from morning to evening.
Shah’s blood sugar level has breached 550 mark and suffered heart condition during NIA questioning, Geelani said, adding he had produced medical evidence but was not allowed to return home where he could have consulted a doctor.
“The NIA has no case against Shah or any other Hurriyat leader. They have no evidence against us. They are trying to make false cases against Hurriyat leadership and putting pressure on us to weaken the resistance movement,” Geelani said.
The Hurriyat Chairman said such attempts have been made earlier also but resistance leaders would never be cowed down by these tactics tantamount to war crimes.
Shah, since past 35 years, has been active in politics and has conducted himself in a transparent and open manner, said Geelani
“If anything happens to Shah, all the responsibility will lie on the government of India. We demand an early end to these harassing and pressure tactics,” Geelani said.
He also urged global rights watchdogs to take note of Indian war crimes in Jammu and Kashmir and build pressure on India to end its military and political atrocities committed on common Kashmiris and their leadership.
