In a landmark achievement, SKIMS has successfully performed its first Matched Unrelated Donor (MUD) Stem Cell Transplant, saving the life of a three-year-old child suffering from a rare and life-threatening immune disorder, Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH).
The life-saving stem cells were donated by a fully matched volunteer donor from Poland through DKMS, highlighting the extraordinary power of global solidarity and human compassion.
Director SKIMS/EOSG Prof. M. Ashraf Ganie while addressing the media congratulated the transplant team and appealed to the public to register as stem cell donors, emphasizing that every donor has the potential to save a life.
This historic achievement by the Department of Clinical Hematology establishes Matched Unrelated Donor Transplantation Services at SKIMS, bringing advanced, life-saving treatment closer to patients across Jammu & Kashmir.
A donor in Poland. A child in Kashmir. One shared commitment to saving lives.
