SRINAGAR: In view of shutdown call given by the Hurriyat conference against the killing of Militant commander Sabzar and his associate Faizan, curfew like restrictions continued in Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir Valley on Monday.
Authorities said that the restrictions were put in place as precautionary measures to maintain law and order. In Srinagar, curfew like restrictions were put in place in seven areas of Khanyar, Rainawari, Nowhatta, M.R. Gunj, Safa Kadal, Kralkhud and Maisuma.
Strict restriction were also reported from Anantnag town. Similar preventive restrictions were imposed in Shopian, Kulgam, Pulwama, Badgam, Ganderbal, Bandipora, Kupwara and Baramulla districts.
Pertinently Kashmir Valley has been on the edge since Saturday after Hizbul commander, Sabzar Bhat was killed in a gunfight with the security forces in Saimoh village of Pulwama district along with his associate, Faizan Ahmad.
All educational institutions were shut by the authorities besides examinations also were postponed by the university. Traffic in almost all major district headquarters was affected. Reports said that the roads of major towns witnessed deserted look and all shops, business establishment were closed.
Train services also remained suspended for the second consecutive day besides mobile and internet services.
Senior Hurriyat leaders including Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umer Farooq have been placed under house arrest while JKLF chief, Muhammad Yasin Malik was arrested and shifted to the central jail on Sunday.
The restrictions may continue for tomorrow in view of Hurriyat leaders call for “Tral Chaloo”. However, barring few minor stone pelting incidents, the situation in Valley remains peaceful.
