Budgam: People’s Democratic Party Tuesday staged a protest demonstration at Chadoora in central Kashmir’s Budgam district against the ongoing electricity crisis, erratic power supply, and frequent unscheduled power cuts, which the party said are severely affecting the daily lives of locals.
Carrying banners and raising slogans, PDP workers along with inhabitants of the area expressed strong resentment over what they described as unjustified power outages, particularly during the harsh winter period. Protesters said the prolonged electricity cuts have disrupted normal life, impacting businesses, education and household activities across the area.
Addressing reporters, Muhammad Yaseen, District President PDP Chadoora, said people are being pushed to the brink due to prolonged power cuts despite repeated assurances by the authorities. He said electricity is a basic necessity and denial of uninterrupted power supply reflects administrative apathy.
He added that despite tall claims by the government regarding improved power infrastructure, the situation on the ground remains grim. According to him, students are suffering due to lack of electricity during peak winter, while traders and small businesses are incurring losses because of irregular power supply.
The PDP leader demanded immediate intervention by the administration to ensure stable and adequate electricity supply to Chadoora and adjoining areas, warning that public resentment will continue to grow if the issue is not addressed on priority. [KNT]
