Srinagar: Abdul Gani Dar alias Ghazali, who was a co-accused in Moulana Showkat assassination case, was found dead inside a mosque here in Maisuma area of Srinagar city on Thursday.
A police official told Kashmir News Trust that prima facie it seems a murder while CCTV footage will be checked to identify the killers. The assailants have probably used some sharp tools to disfigure the face of the victim.
Sources said that locals found blood oozing out from the disfigured face of Dar on the second floor of Jamiat-Ahilhadit Masjid. When police was called in, the man was already dead. A police team led by SP East Sheema Nabi Qasba inspected the spot. When the identity card of the deceased was checked, it confirmed that it is the body of former militant Abdul Gani Dar alias Ghazali, a resident of Rusu Budgam.
Dar was a founding member of militant organization Tehreek-ul-Mujhadeen and was also associated with Jamiat Ahilhadith, though he was a hardliner and was co-accused in the assassination of Maulana Showkat who was killed in the same area on 8 April, 2011. The court had however, granted him bail after prosecution failed to produce evidence against him. (KNT)
