24 hours after his death, corpse not lifted, family demands action
Bandipora, Feb 27 : A day after the Block development Officer (BDO) died due to massive cardiac arrest, the government has miserably failed to evacuate the body of the deceased officer from Tulail village of north Kashmir’s Gurez area in Bandipora district while the administration cited inclement weather conditions as reason for not handing over the body to the family.
The body of a senior officer of Rural Development Department (RDD), who died due to a massive cardiac arrest while performing his duty in Tulail area of Gurez yesterday, was not evacuated from Gurez to his home today due to bad weather, officials told.
An official said that a BDO identified as Abdul Saleem Darzi of Anantnag, posted at Tulail suffered a massive cardiac arrest while he was on duty yesterday. He said the officer was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The body has been lying in a hospital in Gurez ever since.
Unfortunately, due to bad weather, the administration has failed to evacuate the deceased body from Gurez to his ancestral home south Kashmir’s Anantnag district today, he said.
“The weather in Gurez was not favorable all day due to which we could not evacuate the body to his ancestral home,” an official said from Gurez.
He, however, said that the efforts will be made once again in the wee hours of tomorrow morning to evacuate the body, adding that the administration will also seek help from the Army, if required.
Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased officer have demanded immediate evacuation of the body from Gurez to his ancestral home so that his last rites can be performed.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora Dr Owais Ahmad had said the district administration is making arrangements for airlifting the body of the deceased officers through a special air sortie as and when the weather permits.
Pertinently, Gurez-Bandipora road is closed for traffic from past few months, owing to heavy snowfall in Gurez Valley and Razdan top—(KNO)
