Bandipora: A massive fire broke out early this morning in Bandipora town, resulting in extensive damage to approximately 17 shops. The blaze, which erupted in a congested commercial area, was brought under control after several hours of intense firefighting. No casualties have been reported so far, but the property loss is significant, affecting local businesses and livelihoods.
PDP spokesperson Syed Tajammul expressed deep concern over the incident and commended the district administration, police, fire service, and local residents for their swift and coordinated response. “Their prompt efforts prevented the fire from spreading further and causing greater devastation,” he said.
However, Syed Tajammul also raised serious concerns regarding the town’s emergency infrastructure. He noted that Bandipora has only one fire station, which is limited in both modern firefighting equipment and manpower. “Such incidents highlight the urgent need to strengthen local emergency services to prevent similar disasters in the future,” he added.
Expressing solidarity with the affected shopkeepers, Syed Tajammul urged the authorities to provide immediate relief and adequate compensation to those who suffered losses. He emphasized that timely support is essential to help victims recover and resume their businesses.
This incident has sparked calls from local residents and political representatives alike for better disaster preparedness and enhanced firefighting capabilities in the district.
