2 Siblings Among 3 Held With Arms, Ammo in Kupwara

Kupwara: Three persons, including two siblings, have been allegedly apprehended with arms and ammunition on two different instances of naka-related recoveries in the district on Thursday.

Official sources earlier in the day had told about arrest of two siblings identified as Jahangir Ahmad Hajam (24), a shopkeeper by profession, and Abdul Hameed Hajam (32), a driver by profession, sons of Mangta Hajam, residents of Khawarpora Tanghdar during a naka by Special Operations Group (SOG) at main-market Kupwara. The arrests were confirmed by a senior police officer saying that a case vide FIR number 160/21 under sections 3/4 Explosive Substance Act was registered in this regard.

Meanwhile later in the evening a joint team of Police 28 RR and 162 Battalion CRPF claimed to have apprehended another person during a naka established at Wani Dorusa in Sogam area of Lolab.

“During search-cum-checking, one person was found in suspicious condition, who on seeing the search party tried to escape from the spot but was chased and apprehended by the search party”, a statement read.

Identifying the arrestee as one Abdul Rashad Lone son of Gulam Mustafa Lone a resident of Nagam Karen Kupwara, the forces in the statement claimed that “On personal searches of the apprehended person, three grenades and 58 Rounds of AK-47 were recovered.”

The police, as suggested by the statement, registered a case vide FIR No. 27/2021 U/s 7/25 Arms Act & 3/4 Explosive Substance Act at Police Station Sogam besides taking up due investigations. (GNS)
