Srinagar, Sep 28 : The Jammu and Kashmir government is yet to notify the headquarters or location of the proposed Jammu and Kashmir National Law University under the Jammu and Kashmir National Law University Act, 2018, the Legislative Assembly was informed.The issue was raised by MLA Sunil Sharma through a question, seeking details about whether the headquarters or location of the National Law University had been notified under Section 3 of the Jammu and Kashmir National Law University Act, 2018, and, if not, the reasons for the delay.In its reply, the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said the Jammu and Kashmir National Law University Act, 2018, received the assent of the Governor on September 28, 2019. The Act provides that the Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, establish one or more universities and specify their location.The government said it is yet to notify the headquarters or place of the university in terms of Section 3 of the Act.The department, however, pointed out that the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, in its sitting held on October 29, 2025, adopted a resolution moved by MLA Nazam-ud-Din Bhat.The resolution urged the government to initiate the process of establishing the Jammu and Kashmir National Law University at Srinagar without any further delay, stating that funds earmarked for the first phase had already been provided.On whether the government intends to establish the headquarters of the National Law University at Jammu, and the timeline fixed for notifying the headquarters, the reply stated: “As above.”The Jammu and Kashmir National Law University Act, 2018, provides for the establishment of the university and related matters.The reply was furnished by the Minister-in-Charge, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs—(KNO)
