Srinagar, Oct 7 : Rain and hailstorm affected parts of Jammu and Kashmir amid a fresh spell of unsettled weather, with hail reported from several areas of Rajouri district and fresh snowfall recorded in higher reaches of Kashmir, including the Gulmarg and Zojila areas.

Several areas of Rajouri witnessed a heavy hailstorm on Tuesday night, with hailstones covering roads and open spaces as the weather conditions deteriorated.

Meanwhile, higher reaches of Kashmir received fresh snowfall, with snowfall reported in the Afarwat-Gulmarg belt and towards Zojila, while lower-lying areas experienced rain and drizzle.

The Meteorological Centre has forecast intermittent rain and showers at some places, along with the possibility of thunderstorms and gusty winds during the ongoing weather spell. The weather is expected to remain unsettled over the coming days, with precipitation more likely over parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

The weather department has also advised farmers to make arrangements for the safe storage of harvested apple and paddy crops between October 8 and 10 in view of the possibility of rain and gusty winds.

No major weather-related damage or widespread disruption has been officially reported so far. [KNT]
