Rain, Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds Forecast Across J&K From Today

Srinagar, Oct 6 : Weather conditions are set to turn unsettled across Jammu and Kashmir from Tuesday, with the Meteorological Centre Srinagar forecasting rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds at various places over the coming days.

According to the latest forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is expected across Jammu and Kashmir on Oct 6, while isolated to scattered rainfall is likely on Oct 7 and 8. Another spell of fairly widespread to widespread rain is forecast for Oct 9, followed by isolated to scattered rainfall on Oct 10 and 11.

Thunderstorms and lightning are likely to accompany the weather activity, with gusty winds also expected. The IMD has issued warnings for thunderstorms, lightning and squall for Jammu and Kashmir for Oct 6 through Oct 10. No warning is indicated for Oct 11 and 12.

The forecast comes after several days of unusually warm conditions across the region. IMD data showed Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 30.8°C on Oct 5, while Jammu recorded 33°C. Qazigund recorded 31°C, Kupwara 31.6°C and Kukernag 30.4°C.

Minimum temperatures on Oct 6 remained relatively mild, with Srinagar recording 14°C, Pahalgam 7.8°C and Gulmarg 9.4°C, while Jammu recorded a minimum of 23.6°C.

The change in weather is expected to bring relief from the recent warm spell, while residents, motorists and people travelling to higher reaches have been advised to remain attentive to weather updates, particularly during periods of thunderstorms and gusty winds. [KNT]
