Srinagar: MGNREGA Engineers Association on Friday welcomed government decision to constitute a committee pertaining to the long pending demands of contractual staff engaged under the scheme.
The Association in a statement here expressed hope that the committee so-constituted will submit its report within the stipulated time frame and the government will act this time. “In past two committees were constituted and despite promise their fate was not known,” the Association said and expressed hope the long pending are met and colossal problems facing the contractual staff are addressed without any further delay.
In supersession of Order No. 169-RD&PR of 2018, dated 07-07-2018, the government ordered constitution of a committee to examine “long pending Human Resource Development (HRD) and other related issues pertaining to the supporting staff (contractual) engaged under Mahatma Gandhi NREGS”. The committee, comprising Director Finance, RD &PRD (Chairperson), Director, RDD Jammu/Kashmir (Member), Additional Secretary/Member Secretary MGNREGA (Member Secretary) and Joint Director Planning (Member), has been asked to submit its report/recommendations within a period of fifteen (15) days
Last week, the Association had deferred proposed pen down strike against the government decision to engage retired engineers in Rural Development Department.
The development followed Association’s meeting with Principal Secretary RDD.
“We have been assured by worthy principal secretary RDD that our genuine demands will be positively considered and following the assurance we have decided to defer the proposed pen down strike for now,” the Association had said. (GNS)
