Chief Planning Officer (CPO), Bandipora, Imtiyaz Ahmad told that understanding the complexity of Solid Waste Management, a ray of hope has emerged for the district where first of its kind SWM plant has been sanctioned at the cost of Rs 6 crores.

He said that the EOI has been invited and work is expected to start soon while the land development including fencing of the site is going on.

Meanwhile, another official said that with the sanction of the SWM plant, the district will be waste free very soon.

Notably, the district is presently facing a lot of problems, in terms of Solid Waste Management as there is no proper disposal facility, nor any modern method for its treatment.

The locals alleged that the solid waste is collected by Municipal Council and the same is not disposed off scientifically, which has given rise to problems like overflowing of dustbins, choking of streams, land pollution by Leachate, pollution of water bodies and public inconvenience—(KNO)
