Kupwara: A civilian was killed and seven others including four children injured during heavy shelling from across the LoC where in civilian areas were targeted in Machil sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Tuesday night.
Officials told Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that “Shells landed in the civilian areas along the LoC in Machil sector with heavy arms, automatic and mortars during Tuesday night. They said that the army was retaliating strongly and effectively to the ceasefire violation.
“A civilian was killed in the firing, while seven civilians including four children were injured,” a senior police officer said.
The officer identified deceased as Muhammad Yousuf Khan aged 50, a resident of Thali-Dudi, Machil. He said that the injured children were identified as a girl child Nayeema Bano, aged 10, Tariq Ahmed Khan aged 9, Muneer Ahmed Khan aged 8, Aqib Khan aged 9 and Uzair Ahmed Khan aged 8. The killing of civilian Khan triggered panic across Machil sector with many people deciding to shift their base towards safer areas (KNO).
