Jan Aushadhi Diwas 2021 observed at SNM Hospital Leh

Leh, March 7: The week-long nation-wide Jan Aushadhi Diwas 2021 was celebrated at SNM Hospital, Leh, from March 1 to 7. Prime Minister Narendra Modi signalled the end of the Jan Aushadhi Diwas by addressing the stakeholders and beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana.

Addressing the nation, PM Modi said that the initiative would help the poor save money by providing medicines at affordable cost from Jan Aushadi centres. He shared that the PM Janaushadhi Pariyojana, being run across the country for poor and middle-income families, is a medium of seva (service) and rozgar (employment) as it also provides employment opportunities to the youth.

Director, Health Services, UT Ladakh, Dr Phuntsog Angchuk was the chief guest for the event at SNM Hospital. Dr Angchuk shared that the schemes of the central government, including Jan Aushadhi Yojana and Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs), are focused on the upliftment of the weaker section of the society and providing affordable health services to them.

Earlier, Medical Superintendent (MS), SNM Hospital Leh, Dr Nurzin Angmo, spoke on the significance of the Jan Aushadhi Diwas that aims to raise awareness among the people about generic medicines-quality medicines available at affordable prices. She shared that generic medicines are tested at NABL-accredited labs to ensure quality medicines.

MS Leh also requested the doctors to prescribe generic medicines to the patients and the registered pharmacists to run Jan Aushadhi Kendras in which they get a share of 20% of the profit.

Chief Medical Officer, Leh, representatives from political parties, doctors and staff of SNM Hospital Leh were present during the event.
