Asks Group to address terrorism instead of talking about Kashmir, not to provide platform to Pakistan’s fabricated, motivated propaganda
New Delhi, Sept 23 : Stating that Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Contact Group has no role in matters concerning India, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Wednesday rejected references to Jammu and Kashmir in a communique issued by the group. The MEA in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral parts of India and termed the OIC’s references politically motivated and factually incorrect. “The OIC has no locus standi to pronounce on matters that are strictly internal to India,” the MEA said.It said repeated endorsement of what it described as “motivated narratives” raises questions about the credibility of the OIC.The statement followed a meeting of the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The five-member group comprises Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan and Niger.During the meeting, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar called on OIC members to maintain a unified diplomatic position on Kashmir and keep the issue among their priorities. The communique issued after the meeting reaffirmed the OIC’s support for what it described as the Kashmiri right to self-determination. It also called for the release of political prisoners and implementation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions.Rejecting the references, the MEA said the OIC should not provide a platform for what it called Pakistan’s “fabricated and motivated propaganda”.It also advised the grouping to counsel Pakistan over what India described as the continuing threat of terrorism emanating from territories under its control—(KNO)
