Srinagar, Sep 12 : The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday carried out searches at ten locations across Jammu and Kashmir in connection with a cross-border terror conspiracy linked to Pakistan-based handlers of banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and its Over Ground Workers (OGWs) network.In a handout to GNS, NIA said that the searches were conducted in Kupwara, Kulgam, Bandipora, Baramulla and Sopore districts to collect further evidence regarding the conspiracy and to ascertain the role of persons providing logistical and other support to infiltrated terrorists, NIA said in a statement.The case was initially registered as FIR No. 0024/2026 at Police Station Zakoora, Srinagar, and was later re-registered by NIA as RC-02/2026/NIA/JMU under Section 23 of the UAPA, Sections 7 and 25 of Arms Act and Section 4 of Explosive Substances Act.The investigation was launched after an OGW associated with LeT was arrested during late night hours on 31st March 2026 at a naka point. A hand grenade and live ammunition were recovered from his possession. The further investigation led to arrest of Pakistani nationals linked to the conspiracy and unraveled the identities and roles of members of local support network.As per NIA, investigation so far has revealed linkages between Pakistan-based LeT handlers and their local associates who were being used for communication, movement and concealment of infiltrated terrorists, providing shelter, reconnaissance and other logistical facilitation.The agency said it is also examining the financial trail, communication channels, movement of accused, and source and supply chain of arms and explosives, with a view to establish complete network and uncover extent of its activities.During today’s searches, incriminating material relevant to the case was seized which is being examined and corroborated with other evidence.NIA said its investigation is continuing to identify all persons involved in the conspiracy and establish their respective roles. Further legal action including arrests and recoveries may follow subject to outcome of investigation, it added.(GNS)
