Seven Tractors Seized in Crackdown on Illegal Mining in Shopian

Shopian: Continuing its crackdown on illegal mining activities, Jammu and Kashmir Police in Shopian have seized seven tractors allegedly involved in the unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals from the Rambiara Nallah area of the district.

Officials said the action was taken during routine patrolling conducted by a police team from Police Station Heerpora. During the operation, the team intercepted seven tractors reportedly engaged in the extraction and transportation of minerals without valid royalty documents.

Police said two separate cases have been registered in connection with the matter. FIR No. 53/2026 and FIR No. 54/2026 under relevant provisions of law have been lodged at Police Station Heerpora, and further investigation has been initiated.

Officials described illegal mining as a pernicious activity that can adversely affect river ecosystems, public infrastructure and the environment if left unchecked.

Police also appealed to the public to share information regarding illegal mining activities, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept confidential. Authorities said public cooperation remains indispensable in curbing violations and protecting natural resources. [KNT]
