Srinagar: Inhabitants of Rathpora Eidgah area in Downtown Srinagar are facing severe hardships due to persistent waterlogging in interior lanes, with locals alleging complete neglect by both the elected representative and the administration.
Several lanes in the locality remain submerged, making daily movement difficult for pedestrians, schoolchildren and elderly people. Locals said the stagnant water has turned routine activities into an ordeal, besides posing health risks.
Locals expressed resentment over the absence of timely intervention, stating that despite repeated complaints, no concrete steps have been taken to drain the accumulated water or address the underlying causes. They alleged that the area has been left unattended for long, worsening the situation with each passing day.
Locals further alleged that the local MLA has remained absent from the ground, while officials from the concerned departments have failed to visit the locality to assess the situation. They said the lack of coordination and accountability has added to their misery.
“Inhabitants here feel abandoned. There is no visible presence of the administration, and no relief has reached us,” a local said, adding that waterlogged lanes have become a recurring problem in the area.
The locals urged the authorities to take immediate steps to restore proper drainage, ensure sanitation, and provide relief to the affected inhabitants before the situation deteriorates further. [KNT]
