Ganderbal: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday conducted widespread search operations across multiple locations in District Ganderbal, targeting individuals and premises associated with the proscribed organisation Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), which remains banned under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
The district-wide operation, described as both counter-militancy and anti-separatist in nature, was carried out simultaneously in several areas with the assistance of other security agencies. According to police officials, the action was initiated following credible intelligence inputs indicating fresh attempts by JeI-linked elements to revive organisational activities through covert channels and front groups.
During the coordinated raids, police recovered a large cache of incriminating material, including documents, printed content, and digital storage devices believed to be connected with the banned outfit. All seized items have been sent for forensic and technical examination, officials said.
Police confirmed that several individuals have been detained for questioning to determine their involvement in unlawful and subversive activities. Investigators are also working to trace the broader network that may have provided ideological or logistical support to these elements.
Officials said the operation is part of the J&K Police’s sustained preventive strategy aimed at dismantling militant and separatist ecosystems, cutting off their ideological, financial, and communication channels, and ensuring that peace and normalcy remain undisturbed across the district. [KNT]
