Budgam: Unknown persons brutally killed a horse by slitting its throat with a sharp knife near the Singal Dop locality in Arizal area of Khansahib.

The horse belonged to Waseem Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Arizal, who said the animal was his family’s source of livelihood. “This horse was our only means to earn bread. We used it to support tourism in the area, especially by ferrying visitors to nearby trekking routes. Its loss has devastated us,” Bhat told the news agency Kashmir News Trust.

Soon after the incident, the bereaved family along with local residents staged a protest, demanding immediate action against the culprits. Protesters condemned the attack, calling it an act of cruelty that shocked the conscience of the community.

“This kind of violence should not happen in Kashmir. If people can do this to a helpless animal, what can they do to humans?” asked one protester.

The demonstrators submitted a formal appeal to the police, urging them to identify the unknown assailants and bring them to justice.

A police official confirmed that a complaint has been registered and an investigation is underway. [KNT]
