SRINAGAR: For the third consecutive day authorities imposed valley-wide restrictions and curfew to prevent a march to Tral, the hometown of slain Hizbul Mujahideen commander Sabzar Ahmad Bhat.
Pertinently the call for Tral march was given jointly by the leadership of Hurriyat conference. Hurriyat leadership asked people to march to Tral in Pulwama district to offer prayers (fateha) of Sabzar, the successor of Burhan Wani.
Sabzar was killed on Saturday in a gunfight with the forces in Saimoh village along with his associate Faizan Ahmed.
Heavy deployment of police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was put in place in parts of the Srinagar city. Similar restrictions were imposed in all other district headquarters and major towns of the Kashmir Valley.
Train services also remained suspended in the Kashmir Valley for the third consecutive day. Meanwhile all Hurriyat leaders including Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq have been placed under house arrest in the Srinagar city to prevent their participation in the march.
