Says uncertainty is being deliberately created in J&K, claims PDP remains only party capable of representing people’s sentiments
Budgam, Nov 03 : Reacting to the resignation of Srinagar Member Parliament Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi from the National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) MLA from Budgam Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi on Tuesday said it would not bring any immediate relief to the people of Jammu and Kashmir or resolve the region’s long-standing political grievances.
Talking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Muntazir said the issues concerning political rights, reservation and other challenges faced by the people cannot be resolved through the latest political developments.
“Whatever happens today, I do not think it will bring any relief to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The political grievances will remain unresolved, and the reservation issue, which has become like a volcano, will not be settled overnight,” he said.
Referring to Jammu and Kashmir’s political history since 1947, the PDP MLA alleged that successive political developments reflected attempts by the Centre to control the region’s sentiments and aspirations.
He referred to political agreements between Delhi and Srinagar, the alleged rigging of the 1987 Assembly elections and the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, alleging that these developments had contributed to uncertainty and alienation in the region.
Muntazir further alleged that attempts were being made to create political uncertainty in Jammu and Kashmir despite the mandate given by people in the 2024 Assembly elections, which, he said, was intended to address their long-pending grievances.
Claiming that the growing public inclination towards the PDP was not being welcomed by certain quarters, he alleged that efforts were being made to create confusion and political instability to prevent people from turning towards the party.
“The only party that can represent and protect the sentiments of the people and make efforts to address the challenges confronting Jammu and Kashmir is the Peoples Democratic Party,” he said.
He alleged that the political uncertainty witnessed in Jammu and Kashmir over the past month was part of attempts to weaken the PDP’s growing public support.
“Yesterday’s message from the people at Srinagar convention was clear. If there is any political party they are looking towards, it is the Peoples Democratic Party,” he said—(KNO)
