Srinagar: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Anantnag Police arrested an inter-district drug smuggler and recovered 2.613 kg of heroin, valued at around ₹20 crore, during a routine naka checking at Halmulla.
In a handout to GNS, the police said that it intercepted a suspicious Ignis car bearing registration No. JK09B-2808 and recovered four packets of heroin during the vehicle search. The driver was identified as Ishtiyak Ahmad Moghal, son of Abdul Rasheed Moghal, resident of Prada, Tangdar.
Following the recovery, FIR No. 195/2026 was registered under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act. During investigation, the accused was served notice under Section 50 of the NDPS Act and his personal search led to recovery of one more packet of heroin.
Police said the total seizure stands at 2.613 kg. The accused has been arrested and further investigation is underway to trace the source, destination, and the larger network involved, including backward and forward linkages.
Police reiterated its commitment to take stringent action against drug trafficking and appealed to the public to share credible information on narcotics-related activities, reads the statement.(GNS)
