Official warn people of legal proceedings if site is again converted into dumping site

Bandipora, May 10 (KNO): The authorities in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Monday removed the heaps of garbage dumped at the shore of Wular Lake near Nadhihal, officials said.
The development comes six days after news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) carried a detailed story on the heaps of garbage dumped at the shore of Wullar Lake near Nadihal.
Following the news report, the concerned authorities swung into action and removed the garbage dumped on the shore of Wular Lake in the past few days making the site clean yet again.
An official told KNO that the garbage at the site was removed following the direction of district administration, while the Concerned Naib Tehsildar Ali Mohammad, deployed JCBs and garbage trucks of Municipal council to remove the waste from the location. “If anyone is found guilty in the future, strict action will be taken, ” he said.
Blaming the people, the official said that people also have the right to take care of this beautiful place as it is located on edge of Wullar Lake and Bandipora-Srinagar road.
Considering the location as shore of the lake on Bandipora-Srinagar road, the administration as per official has stated that legal proceedings will be initiated against those disposing of garbage and other waste again in the area.
Basheer Ahmad, a local said the people of the town are very happy with the good steps taken by the administration. “There is no garbage on the site right now. Some days ago, it was difficult for a person to walk past this site as it was dirt and stench everywhere,” he said.
Saqib Khan, another local said that the place was completely destroyed and no one was paying attention to it, whether it was a local or management. He said that the administration has made it a good place just like the old one by cleaning up all the garbage.
Meanwhile, locals thanked and appreciated the news agency for highlighting the issues and prompted the concerned authorities to take necessary steps for removal of garbage from the area—(KNO)
