KUPWARA: The inhabitants of Kupwara allege use of spurious material and favoritism over road macadamization.
They said that the spurious material has been used for macadamization of roads in Vilgam which was constructed by R&B department adding that it has got damaged just after 5 days of macadamization.
“There was negligible amount of charcoal in it which results dilapidation in the road condition”, the alleged. They said that the horrible condition of newly macadamized Vilgam – Kupwara road indicates that the government departments and contractors are collectively looting the state, fooling the public.
Residents alleged that there is a huge loss to the state and R&B department adding that no one was made answerable for the irresponsible work.
They alleged that the concerned officials failed to check the quality of material used in macadamization of roads. “The contractors and the concerned department never paid heed to check the quality of the material. Their callous approach led to further dilapidation in the road condition and left the masses to suffer,” said local transporters.
The inhabitants of Kupwara alleged favouritism by the Politicians over the macdamization of the roads in the area.
The inhabitants of Kupwara alleged that their present representative seems more concerned about their party politics rather than focusing on the helpless people of the area who had given them mandate to mitigate their sufferings.
They said that the recent example of the favouritism is the macdamization of the road leading to one of the PDP Worker who is also relative of the Member of Parliament Mir Fayaz.
“Major roads of our area are in dilapidated conditions but it took us to the surprise on the day when R&B department macadamized the road leading to Hyhama Chowk – Anwer Abad was macadamized in which they also macadamized road leading to the PDP Worker’s home. Lakhs of rupees have been utilized for the construction of this road, when asked against this move and demanded the macdamization of other roads the officials of the R&B department who were present there was failed to answer on this move”, they said.
Despite repeated attempts to R&B Minister Nayeem Akther could not be contacted. Meanwhile Executive Engineer R&B Gurudev told PTK that, “I have not received information in this regard. I will investigate in this matter”, he said.
When contact to MOS R&B Sunil Kumar Sharma told PTK, “Yes, there is space for complains. We will not tolerate as there is no consideration for political workers. If the department or contractor has done then the government will not pay for it”, MOS Sunil added.
