Kupwara: Consumers in North Kashmir’s Kupwara District accuses Power Development Department of sending overcharged bills for October month.

Nazir Ahmad, one of the consumers of the department talked to Kashmir Patriot on phone and said, ” I had cleared the bill till September and in October I received a bill of Rs 1135 instead of 373.

In the past few days, many consumers raised similar concerns at different offices of PDD in Kupwara as per reports.

Reports suggest that many consumers have been double charged for either one, two, or three months.

Another consumer told that they visited the subdivision office of the PDD in Trehgam Kupwara to know the reason and clear the issue but to no avail.

He claimed that they were told that it might have happened due to a fault in the computer system at the subdivision office (as bills are sent to consumers from subdivision office) which Executive Engineer PDD Kupwara, Shameem Ahmad denies.

Executive Engineer says that bills are updated at the IT center of the department as per the information and details received from Banks as payment against the bills are made at the banks. “Subdivision office only print bills and if there is any fault in the computer, that can lead to low-quality printout but not variation in bill amount,” he said.

Shameen Ahmad asked consumers who face such issues to visit the subdivision office of the department for redressal and necessary action.
