Kashmiri cricketers arrested for wearing PAK jersey, NIA to arrive for probe

SRINAGAR: Players of a local Kashmiri Cricket club were arrested by the Police for wearing Pakistan team jersey, playing Pakistan’s National anthem during a match on April, 2 in Ganderbal.

The video of the team goes viral on social networking following which police has take up the matter seriously. Reports said that a team of the counter-terrorism National Investigation Agency (NIA) will fly from New Delhi to the Valley on Thursday to probe the cricket incident.

The players of Baba Darya Ud Din team, named after the popular saint whose shrine is situated in Ganderbal, was wearing green uniform of Pakistan.

A bunch of Kashmiri cricketers was detained on Wednesday. Security has been beefed up as residents have gathered near the police station, demanding immediate release of the 11 players, who reportedly represent a cricket club from the Kalmul area in central Kahsmir’s Ganderbal.

Apparently, the match was played on Sunday when Hurriyat leaders had called for shutdown against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the State.
