Kupwara: The Office of the Executive Magistrate 1st Class Ramhall Tarathpora in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district has issued an order prohibiting the sale of tobacco and related products within a 100-meter radius of educational institutions.

According to the official order (No. 1371/TRT dated October 6, 2025), all shopkeepers operating under the jurisdiction of Tehsil Ramhall Tarathpora have been strictly directed to refrain from selling tobacco and similar products near schools and colleges. The Executive Magistrate emphasized that the decision has been taken to safeguard the health and wellbeing of students and to ensure that educational zones remain tobacco-free.

The order warns that strict action will be taken against any violator under the rules and norms governing the subject matter. “A strict action shall be taken against any violator under the rules/norms governing the subject matter with the fullest extent of law,” the directive states.

Copies of the order have been forwarded to the District Magistrate Kupwara, Additional District Magistrate Handwara, Senior Superintendent of Police Handwara, Naib Tehsildar Tarathpora, Station House Officer of Police Station Villagam, and the Market President Tarathpora for information and strict compliance.

Locals have welcomed the move, saying it will help discourage the sale and consumption of tobacco near schools, which often exposes students to such products at an early age. [KNT]
