‘Vendors loot consumers at will in times of Covid’
Srinagar, May 21, : Terming the deaths owing to Covid-19 “very unfortunate, Jammu Kashmir Democratic Party President GM Shaheen on Friday urged people particularly party workers to be with the people in this time of crisis to ensure every facility for the common man in every nook and cranny of Jammu and Kashmir.
Shaheen in a statement to KNT appealed workers to ensure supply of food to the needy, on the lines of the efforts made during the lockdown last year.
He lamented that Covid-19 vaccines are still not available to the common people while in couple of hospital especially at JVC there are no ventilators available for the patients.
“I was shocked after receiving a call from the relative of a patient who said there is no ventilator available for the patient whose Oxygen level has dropped considerably,” Shaeen said.
He urged authorities to keep the ventilators available in all the hospitals. “It is very unfortunate that big claims are being made about hospital infrastructure but on ground the situation is really very different. Patients are dying due to lack of infrastructure,” Shaheen said.
He also criticized Food Department for failing to regulate the prices of vegetables and fruits saying that some vendors and shopkeepers are charging prices at will caring a fig for the rules. “If police can regulate order on roads, why can’t Food Department regulate the prices in interior markets where shops and vendors do normal business,” Shaheen said.
