Srinagar : Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen (TuM) on Wednesday said the Government of India’s ban on it was ridiculous and aimed at misleading the world.

A TuM spokesperson in a statement issued to GNS termed the GoI’s ban on the outfit as vote bank politics.

He said the ban carries no weight as the Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen came into existence after all the endeavours including political, diplomatic and dialogue processes from 1947 to 1989 aimed at finding a solution to the Kashmir issue failed.

“Since then, our target has always been India armed forces and its military establishment. Strictly following our principles, we have never targeted any innocent (men, women or children) of India,” the spokesperson said, adding, “Even during the Amarnath Yatra, our cadres volunteered to help the stranded pilgrims.”

Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen further said: “India wants to label Kashmiris as terrorists as they demand freedom like Gandhi and Baghat Singh led India’s freedom struggle against the British rule. We will never surrender before India but will continue our sacred freedom struggle. We will also never let anyone play with the sacred blood of our martyrs.”

If India calls for a referendum under the UN auspices and goes for demilitarisation in a given timeframe, there will be a positive response on our part; the TuM spokesperson said adding if India wants to eradicate poverty, it must fulfill its promises kept with Kashmiris and call for plebiscite in the disputed territory.
