Anantnag: A three-month-old child died and a woman sustained serious injuries after a collision involving two vehicles near Peaks Automobile in the Uranhall area of Bijbehara on Tuesday, officials said.
The accident involved an auto load carrier bearing registration number JK03N-4521 and an Xtreme vehicle bearing registration number CH01A4-0953.
Officials said the auto load carrier was being driven by Shabir Ahmad Dar, a resident of Jablipora, while the driver of the second vehicle could not be immediately identified.
The collision occurred near Peaks Automobile at Uranhall Bijbehara, resulting in serious injuries to two passengers travelling in the load carrier.
The injured were identified as three-month-old Zaid, a resident of Jablipora, and Sumi Jan, aged around 30 years.
Both injured persons were immediately evacuated to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag for treatment.
However, officials said the infant succumbed to injuries shortly after being admitted to the hospital.
The woman continued to undergo treatment at the medical facility, officials added.
Police have initiated proceedings to ascertain the circumstances leading to the accident and identify the driver of the second vehicle. [KNT]
