Srinagar: Employees of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation on Monday continued their protest against the non-payment of wages, alleging prolonged delays that have caused financial distress among municipal workers.

The protesting employees said they have not received their wages for months, forcing many to struggle to meet basic household expenses. They demanded the immediate release of pending salaries and a clear assurance from the authorities to prevent such delays in the future.

Reliable sources told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that funds earmarked for payment of wages were instead distributed among advertising agencies to highlight the achievements of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation across the city. The claim has further angered the employees, who said priority should have been given to clearing salary dues rather than publicity.

The protesting workers said repeated representations to the authorities have yielded no results so far, prompting them to intensify their agitation. They warned that the protest may be escalated if their demands are not addressed promptly.

urging the administration to intervene and ensure timely disbursement of wages to avoid further hardship. [KNT]
