Shopian, May 06 : In an ongoing encounter at Kanigam Village of Imam Sahib area in South Kashmir’s Shopian district, one militant has surrendered while as operation is on in the area.
Police in a tweet said that one newly recruited militant namely Tausif Ahmad surrendered and operation is on in the area.
“#ShopianEncounterUpdate: One newly recruited militant namely Tausif Ahmad #surrendered. #Operation in progress. Further details shall follow, ” Kashmir Police zone tweeted.
An official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that Tausif was missing since last one day and accepted the surrender offer given by security forces.
Three more newly recruited militants are trapped and forces are trying to persuade them for surrender as well, He said
Earlier an official said that a joint team of Police, Army’s 44 RR and CRPF launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.
He said that as the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.
