Shopian 15 March: The militants killed in an ongoing encounter in Shopian’s Rawalpora area reached two on Monday, and among the killed, one was identified by a police official as Jaish commander Sajjad Afghani.
The encounter started in the Rawalpora area of Shopian on Saturday evening after the forces and police launched the CASO. During the encounter, one militant was killed earlier, which police had confirmed on Sunday morning. The name of the slain militant was revealed as Jehangir Ahmad.
However, IGP Vijay Kumar on Monday confirmed the killing of another militant in an encounter as Sajad Afghani, a Jaish commander.
Further police tweeted that “IGP Kashmir congratulates Shopian police & SFs for eliminating JeM commander militant Sajjad Afghani in Shopian encounter.”
The encounter further gained pace on Monday afternoon when forces established contact with a third militant following the killing of two. The operation at the encounter site was going on when this report was filed.
