Calls his response ‘sheer arrogance’, says this is not what people voted for
Tangmarg: Member Parliament from Srinagar and National Conference leader, Aga Ruhullah Mehdi on Monday castigated Chief Minister Omar Abdullah over his remarks on alcohol and termed it as “sheer arrogance.”
Talking to reporters, Ruhullah, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) launched a sharp attack on CM Omar Abdullah over his recent statement that “no one is forced to take drugs.”
Ruhullah said his (CM Omar’s) response was “arrogant, unethical and illogical” and contrary to the promises made by the NC during the election campaign.
He said the National Conference had assured people that liquor shops would be regulated and alcohol consumption restricted for locals. “Instead of assuring people that action will be taken, people were scolded and labelled. This is not what people voted for,” he said.
Ruhullah further accused the Chief Minister of using language that reflected the “tagging and stereotyping” of Kashmiris. He said the people of Jammu and Kashmir had voted against such “arrogance” and expected the elected government to stand for public sentiment and constitutional protections—(KNO)
