Government launches fresh vaccination drive in Srinagar

Srinagar, May 1: The third phase of vaccination bagan for people above the age of 18 years in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir today. Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Aijaz Asad kick-started the Covid-19 vaccination drive here at Shri Maharaj Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital for the age group of 18-45.

 

Shortly after launching the vaccination drive, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar said that there is sufficient quantities of vaccines available with them.

 

“Earlier people were coming in less numbers but in the last few days, the demand for vaccines has increased and that’s why we are getting more. We will keep it available for people. 10 centres for the people of age group 18-45 have been established. We request people in this age group to register themselves in CoWin app and come at the time of appointment.” said Ajaz Asad, DC Srinagar.

 

A top official from the district administration Srinagar told news agency Kashmir News Trust that the government has received around 75,000 new doses of Covaxin from Hyderabad. He said that in the first instance, 1,50,000 vaccines doses arrived in the J&K. “75000 doses are for Jammu region and 75000 doses for Kashmir,” he said.

He said more than 23 lakh people have been vaccinated in the Union Territory so far.

Meanwhile, Government in a tweet said that: “Covaxin will be administered to this age group free of cost. It will be by prior registration and prior appointment only. Please do not crowd the vaccination centres without appointment.”

The administration has urged people to register themselves for the vaccine and also said that people who are not registered will not be vaccinated. There are around 10 designated centres in Srinagar where the third phase of vaccination has been started by the government. (KNT)
