GDC Baramulla Commemorates 8th International Yoga Day.

Baramulla : The Department of Physical Education & Sports Government Degree College Baramulla in Collaboration with NCC, IQAC, NSS units of the college & Department of Youth Services & Sports Baramulla organized the event. This year’s theme of the International day of yoga is “Yoga for Humanity”. The event witnessed a massive presence and participation of guests, college faculty, NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, and children from different invited schools and colleges.
Dr Mohammad Farooq Rather, Principal of college while speaking to the guests and participants stressed upon the need for adoption of Yoga as a means of developing a sound mind in a sound body. He reiterated that the college will make all efforts to enhance sports activities in general and yoga in particular among the youth. He also thanked and acknowledged the efforts put forth by the officials of Youth Service and Sports Baramulla and the Department of Physical Education and Sports of the college headed by Lt.Dr. Tanveer Ahmad Bhat for organizing the event despite all odds.

Dr. Syed Sehrish Asgar, District Development Commissioner formally inaugurated the event consisting of a series of yoga related exercises and activities. While Addressing the participants, she underlined the importance of Yoga in promoting physical and mental well being of people. “Yoga is a harmless medicine for responding/ addressing a number of physical and psychological distresses and should be therefore practiced and added to the list of daily routine by all” she said. She also appreciated the participants for their volunteerism and desire for the continuation of such exercises in future.
The events were graced by the presence of Commandant 53 Bn CRPF Mr. Meghraj, Commanding Officer 46 RR, Director North Campus Dr Parvaiz Ahmad, President MC Baramulla, Mr Tauseef Raina, District Youth Service Officer Baramulla, Zonal Physical Education Officer Bla and others.
The event came to a successful end with a vote of thanks proposed by Prof Tariq Ahmad Chalkoo Staff Secretary of College and was followed by refreshment served to all guests and all participants.
