Encounter ensues between militants and security forces in south Kashmir

SRINAGAR: A fierce encounter ensued today between holed up militants and security forces in south Kashmir district of Kulgam.

Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Range, Munir Ahmad Khan said that security forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint operation following a tip off about the presence of militants at Arwani in Kulgam district, where a police constable was killed and a woman injured by gunmen last evening.

He said when the security forces were moving towards particular area, the militants hiding there opened fire which was retaliated, ensuing an encounter. (UNI)
