Doda: A massive landslide struck near Pul Doda on Saturday, blocking the vital Doda–Kishtwar road and bringing vehicular movement to a complete halt, leaving several vehicles stranded on the route.
The landslide, which occurred along the mountainous stretch near Pul Doda, triggered a significant accumulation of debris on the roadway, cutting off connectivity between Doda and Kishtwar districts.
The disruption affected passenger vehicles and goods carriers, with commuters forced to wait for hours as traffic remained suspended. The road serves as a crucial link in the Chenab Valley region, and its closure caused immediate inconvenience to travelers and transporters.
The incident highlights the vulnerability of the hilly terrain to sudden landslides, particularly along stretches prone to loose soil and rock formations. With debris spread across the road, vehicles were unable to move in either direction, leading to a growing backlog of stranded traffic.
Efforts were on to clear the road. Commuters were seen waiting along the roadside, while some attempted to assess alternative routes amid the disruption.
Pertinently, the route is frequently affected by landslides, especially during periods of unstable weather and shifting terrain conditions. [KNT]
