Three oxygen plants to come up in the region’

Leh, May 04 : Amid the steep rise in COVID-19 infection cases in Ladakh, the authorities Tuesday said that the situation is under control and there is no shortage of required stock including oxygen, medicines, and beds.

The Ladakh has a total of 1283 active positive cases with a recovery rate of 90 percent while 148 individuals have died due to the virus so far of which 104 in Leh and 44 in Kargil.

The region has also reported a total of 14,315 cases since the pandemic among which 12,884 have recovered successfully from the infection.

The region reported three COVID-19 positive deaths in the last 24 hours, all from the Leh district.

Talking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a senior health official said that though there is a steep rise in the COVID-19 cases in recent days but the overall situation is under control and the basic requirements have been ensured.

The official informed that three oxygen plants are scheduled to come up in the Ladakh region at Nubra Valley, Zanskar, and Drass and the infrastructure for the same has been prepared while the machinery is awaited which is expected soon positively.

He maintained that as of now there is no dearth of oxygen in the region and all the health centers catering to the COVID-19 patients have a sufficient supply available.

“In case the situation worsens only then the need and demand will be increased but as of now the situation is under control. Even this time there is no surety about what is about to happen next,” the official said requesting anonymity.

The official also said that several health care workers including the doctors catering to the COVID-19 patients in the region have tested positive for the virus, however, all of them have recovered.

“The health workers continue to contract the virus and recently on Monday around six of them tested positive,” an official said.

An administrative official said that on Monday medical devices urgently required at Sonam Nabroo Memorial (SNM) Hospital Leh was airlifted to the region from Delhi owing the closure of highway—(KNO)
