Kupwara : Inhabitants of Kilmishan Mohalla in Muqam-i-Shahwali of tehsil Drugmulla in frontier north Kashmir’s Kupwara district are aghast over dilapidated road conditions and worn-out electric poles.
A local delegation told that they have been facing a lot of inconvenience due to shabby road conditions for over a considerable time now. The road connecting the area with the main village had seen some repairs for the first time after several decades, to the much relief of inhabitants, they said. However the contractors associated with the work in a bid to earn quick bucks bypassed the standards and requirements and went on to complete the work in haste.
“Due to the substandard work and troubling increase in the height of the road, which already had a higher gradient in the absence of macadam, the condition of the road has debilitated further”, they said adding even at a slight downpour, the road sight of a muddy field.
“Even on any given normal day, it proves a herculean task for the locals, especially children and older folk, to tread the road”, they said.
“The erected wooden poles have gone horizontal with time thereby posing a great threat to human population and property alike”, they said adding even wires are lying low at several places.
Alleging that the authorities are not paying attention towards the genuine concerns, they said that despite bringing the issue into the notice of authorities concerned on several occasions, no significant step has been taken so far to alleviate their sufferings.
“We urge the authorities concerned to pay heed to our concerns for immediate redressal of the issues”, they said. (GNS)
