SRINAGAR : Commuters had to face immense hardships due to wrongly parked vehicles on road sides which stuck vehicular movement besides turning Srinagar city chaotic.
Many commuters even blame that the vehicles of security forces are also driving through wrong side, especially in the uptown Srinagar areas.
The commuters as well the pedestrians told PTK that they are forced to face hardships due to the massive traffic that Srinagar is witnessing from the past few days.
Many believe that the main reason for the wrongly parking of vehicles is lack of parking area in Srinagar adding that the parking lot at press enclave which was at the center point in city is closed from last many days for some development purpose.
“Authorities could have begun work on this particular parking before Darbar move. By closing this parking area ahead of Darbar move, they are adding to the woes of commuters”, they said.
Eyewitnesses said that hundreds of vehicles were stuck again today in gridlock for hours. The massive traffic jams was witnessed at Rambagh, Jawahar Nagar, Jahangir Chowk, Dalgate and its adjacent areas.
“It took me almost half an hour to reach Jahangir Chowk from Dalagte in my car. The traffic cops also failed to regulate the traffic thereby leaving the commuters to suffer,” Aijaz Ahmad, one among the commuters said.
He also blamed the owners of the vehicles who had parked their vehicles on the roadsides for massive traffic jams. “We cannot only blame authorities over the massive traffic jams but people are also involved for such gridlock. We don’t park our vehicles in parking zone. We must ignore such kind of negligence’s as it led to the sufferings of commuters,” he said.
Ahmad said that the authorities must take action against violators so that the commuters as well as the pedestrians could feel a sigh of relief.
Another commuters said that the traffic department has already said that their manpower is weak and its stands the responsibility of the people now to cooperate with them so that the huge rush of the vehicles could be tackled easily.
He said that the roadside occupied by the street vendors is also one among the reasons behind traffic jams. “With occupying the roadside, the street vendors don’t even leave a space for pedestrian to walk. They are forced to walk on the road which worsens the traffic jam,” he said.
The commuters as well as the pedestrians urged authorities to press men and machinery to ensure smooth passage of the traffic.
