Srinagar, Oct 8 : Jammu and Kashmir recorded 308 cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act during 2024, with nearly three-fourths of the cases involving allegations of penetrative sexual assault, according to National Crime Records Bureau data.
Of the total cases, 228 were registered under Sections 4 and 6 of the POCSO Act, covering penetrative sexual assault and aggravated penetrative sexual assault. Another 65 cases were registered under Sections 8 and 10, relating to sexual assault and aggravated sexual assault.
The data as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust further shows that seven cases were registered under Section 12 of the Act concerning sexual harassment of children, while five cases were registered under Sections 14 and 15 relating to the use of children for pornographic purposes.
Three additional cases were registered under Sections 17 to 22 of the POCSO Act, covering offences including abetment and related provisions.
Overall, J&K recorded 887 cases of crimes against children during 2024, with POCSO cases accounting for 308 of these cases. [KNT]
