Hits back at BJP over Sheikh Abdullah remarks; says NC’s sacrifices and role in J&K history cannot be forgotten
Srinagar, Sep 23 : Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday hit back at the BJP over its remarks on National Conference founder late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, questioning the party’s historical record and asserting that the role and sacrifices of the National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir’s history could not be erased.Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function at SKICC in Srinagar, Omar, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said those who did not participate in the freedom struggle could not teach others about the history of that period.“The people who didn’t take part in the fight for freedom, what lesson will they teach us? RSS and the ancestral party of BJP, everyone knows their role in the fight for freedom. Everyone knows who apologised and what they did,” Omar said.He said Sheikh Abdullah’s role in Jammu and Kashmir’s history is well known and that the sacrifices made by the National Conference could not be forgotten.“No one can forget the role of Sher-e-Kashmir here. The sacrifices that were made in the National Conference. The sacrifice started from the National Conference,” he said.Referring to the slogan associated with the National Conference’s political history, Omar said, “Hamlaavar khabardar, hum Kashmiri hain khabardar—where did this slogan come from?”The Chief Minister said the BJP was attempting to present history differently whenever it disagreed with a particular narrative.“Now BJP has made it a habit. When they don’t like anything, they try to present history in a new way. They have tried in this too,” Omar said.He said the National Conference would continue to put forward its position on the issue.—(KNO)
